About Les
Hi, I’m Les Huysmans — a multilingual educator living and working in Thailand, though it’s not where I’m from. It’s where I’ve chosen to build my life, raise my kids with my wonderful wife, and dedicate my work to education that actually empowers learners.
Over the past 25+ years, I’ve taught, mentored, and led teams in international and bilingual schools across Southeast Asia. These days, I work primarily in Bangkok, supporting students (and sometimes their parents too) through the real-world messiness of school life — language learning, transitions, confidence-building, and yes, homework meltdowns.
My approach is grounded in curiosity, empathy, and practicality. I draw on elements from IPC, IB, Reggio Emilia, and STEAM learning, blending them with a healthy dose of humour and cultural awareness. Whether it’s a hands-on DIY project or a language support plan, I believe learning should feel meaningful and human.
This blog is my corner of the internet for unpacking what really happens in schools — especially in Thailand — and how we can rethink education so it serves people, not just systems.
If any of this resonates, or if you’ve got a question, challenge, or idea to share, I’d love to hear from you and maybe even meet up for a coffee to share ideas.
